OECD/WHO Technical Workshop
Development of a minimum dataset to monitor trends
in the international migration of health personnel
31 May – 1 June 2010 , OECD Conference Centre, Paris
Building on the joint work undertaken by the OECD and WHO on the international mobility of health personnel and as a follow-up to the joint WHO/OECD Dialogue on health workforce migration held in Geneva in October 2008, the main aim of this Technical Workshop is to discuss how to improve the availability and comparability of a minimum dataset to regularly monitor trends in the international migration of health personnel.
Three main outcomes are expected from this Workshop:
- discussion and agreement on a minimum dataset needed to monitor trends in the international migration of health personnel, taking into account the point of views of both sending and receiving countries;
- the identification of one or more potential data sources from countries that may be used to respond to this minimum dataset;
- a set of recommendations to countries, international organisations and other stakeholders on the next steps towards the development, dissemination and use of these potential data sources in order to increase the availability and comparability of such a minimum dataset.
First Meeting of the Health workforce Information Reference Group
10-12 March 2010, Montreux, Switzerland
In order to promote a coordinated, harmonized and standardized approach to strengthening the global evidence base on human resources for health, the WHO Department of Human Resources for Health, Global Health Workforce Alliance and Health Metrics Network jointly called for the establishment of a Health workforce Information Reference Group (HIRG).
The role of the HIRG would be to provide technical advice towards a global strategy for strengthening health workforce information and monitoring systems in countries and regions. It would be composed of a small group of subject matters experts from a range of countries, institutions and agencies.
The first meeting of the HIRG is scheduled to take place from 10-12 March 2010, Montreux, Switzerland
